President’s Message for January 2017

13 January 2017 715 views No Comment

As the Chinese Zodiac Year of the Rooster is arriving on 28 January, 2017, allow me to wish one and all excellent healthy and handsome rewards for the hard work they put in serving humanity.

Rooster is the 10th animal in 12 zodiac signs. Rooster is connected to the season of autumn. It's the fall harvest time. Therefore, Rooster is also connected to the fruit. People should have relaxing or joyful time while enjoying the fruit. That means we can have a good time after diligence in the cycle of Rooster.

The fundraising event on 20 December was a great success. We had full turnout and the funds raised during the event was impressive. Most important of all was the fellowship. This positive experience will surely spur our club members to do more. The proceeds and donations received shall go to sponsor cataract eye surgeries for those in Nepal who desperately need the surgery but could ill afford it.

Our first physical meeting of 2017 will see a very interesting speaker in Gerald Leow. This is a young man trained in France on a method of learning music through movement, which is known as Dalcroze Eurhythmics. The method was created in the early 20th century by the Swiss musician and educator Emile Jaques-Dalcroze. The fun, interactive and enjoyable learning process has been the one big factor for the success of this method. The method has particularly significant application for the elderly as a prevention of falls and dementia.

Decision has been made to run the Action for Happiness training programme, which is a community Service Project our club have organized in conjunction with Action for Happiness, UK, for a second time in April / June timeframe. This is a facilitated, 8-session workshop to help people to learn the 10 key concepts to happy living. PP Vicky Soo is the organizing chair, and I will be the facilitator. The programme will be held at the Multi-purpose Hall of the Foundation of Rotary Clubs (S) Ltd premises.

Together, let’s live up to the Rotary Theme: ROTARY SERVING HUMANITY.
