1 September 2017 1,202 views No Comment

Dear fellow Rotarians and Friends,

Today, I would like to first and foremost wish all my Muslim Rotarians, Friends and Families "Selamat Hari Raya".

In this September message, let me highlight some of the activities in the month of August, the visit to our club by District Governor Datuk Lee Chuen Wan on Thursday 14th September 2017 and also planned activities in September.

On 2nd August 2017, President Richard was at CIP Terminal JetQuay @ Terminal 2 for the airport reception for RI Evaluation Team. PP Vicky Soo and President Ong attended RI Convention Bid Dinner @ Aura, National Art Gallery. Many of us had missed the event due to limited seating capacity.

On 7th August, Charter President BS Chew initiated Gift Of Sight Indonesia with the host club, Rotary Club of Bandung, District 3410 and looking forward to get some favorable responses from Taiwan and Malaysia for some DDFs to be part of Global Grant application. The Medical Outreach is targeted for end April to early May 2018 for 500 cataract eye surgeries in Bandung, West Java.

PP Vicky Soo secured 100 sunglasses from Atlantic Optical for Gift Of Sight, Nepal 2017.

Charter President BS Chew and Ms Susanze Loh (a friend of Rotary) launched a three month PR campaign for Gift of Sight, Nepal  2017.  We are hoping to create more awareness of our signature project, GOS Nepal 2017, and to raise another $30,000 (shortfall of funds for 1,000 cataract eye surgeries) and 5,000 pair of sunglasses .

We will be having six designated locations as collection point to help to collect the shortfall of 5,000 sunglasses for our Medical Outreach in Nepal.

On 26th August, Charter President BS Chew, PP James Tian and President Richard attended our sister club RC Bandar Utama's Installation Dinner and also signed Renewal of 10 years Sister Club Agreement with our sister clubs, RC Bandar Utama and RC Johor Centennial.

On 31st August, Charter President BS Chew, PP Edmund Chew, President Richard, PE Zwen Chua and Rotarian Terissa Tan attended RC Shenton Installation Dinner and had awesome fellowship with Rotarians of various clubs in Singapore.

For benefit of members who are relatively new to Rotary, the District Governor will visit one by one all the clubs in the district early in the term to help clubs set and achieve goals. The visit is made up of two parts. The first part is a private meeting with the Club's President, Secretary, Treasurer and President Elect. AG Lee SP, the Assistant Governor to Group 11 where we belong, will be in attendance. This meeting will take place from 5:00pm to 7.00pm. DG Datuk Lee Chuan Wan will address the club members at the club assembly. THEREFORE ALL MEMBERS ARE URGED TO ATTEND THIS VERY SPECIAL PHYSICAL MEETING.

I would like to highlight the activities for the month of September as follows:

RC EClub of 3310 and Rotaract Club of ITE College East will join RC Heartlands for the Eye Screening event at Jamiyah Home for The Aged

Weekly Fellowship Every Wednesday 12 noon to 3.00pm at Happy Corner@ Big Street Restaurant, 104 Jalan Besar, Singapore
