UNAS and charter of Rotaract Club

The Secretary General of UNAS, Mr Yap Kwong Weng is interested in the idea of forming a Rotaract club.

The concept proposed to him is one which enables a dual membership to the Youth Wing of UNAS and a Rotaract club which actively promotes the ideals of the UN and Rotary which are essentially the same. Their motto "In Peace We Serve" can be translated to "Peace Through Service", our theme for the next Rotary year and a good motto for the proposed, if it is formed.

The Youth Council has been involved in Rotary's projects since 2010 - 2010 Plants (tree planting), Fundraising Lunch for Chan Su Lan Home, Sustainable Borneo, Humanity In Action events and the UN-Rotary Day 2011.

They organised their first Model United Nation (MUN) in Dec 2010 and invited Rotary's involvement. A Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar, Mr Andrew G Barrows was invited to talk on children's rights during the event. It will be interesting to have a Rotaract Club of such concept in our district as it may attract many young professionals and help develop future Rotarians. A "Rotaract E-club of 3310 at the UNAS" for e.g. would bring fresh ideas and add a vibrancy to Rotary. The Sec Gen, Mr Yap will also be a Rotary Peace Fellow in our District by Aug 2012. He can be an effective spokesperson for Rotary in our District.

I look forward to your updates.

    Thank you.

    Yours In Rotary,
