Dear Rotarians,

September was a productive month for Rotary E-Club of 3310. We kicked off 3 new projects.

Firstly, we launched our club signature project: Gift of Sight. We have partnered with Rotary Club of Sarikei, Sarawak, Malaysia. In coordination with Sarikei Hospital, we shall sponsor Intraocular Lenses (IOL) for poor elderly cataract patients. The cost of the surgical procedure will be borne by the government hospital. Rotary E-Club of 3310 will be the primary partner with Rotary Club of Sarikei for this Gift of Sight 2021 project. The cost of each IOL is RM350. In two weeks we have achieved our target to raise funds for 100 IOLs.

Secondly, our youngest Rotarian Gabrielle Guo has kicked off her Climate Action: Sustainability Project Competition at Temasek Polytechnic. Climate Change is real and an existential threat. Temasek Polytechnic wants to be a part of the solution. She wants to challenge the students to be creative and innovate to develop real solutions to move towards sustainability. This will raise awareness and encourage responsible behaviours for our future generation. She will target socially responsible Temasek Polytechnic students with a zeal for taking action to curb climate change with sustainable environmental solutions. 10 teams with 5 students per team will compete to develop real world solutions.

Lastly, Rotarian Koh Kheng Wah kicked off our club’s first WASH project. The project goal is to prevent diseases that originate from polluted surface water and contamination from untreated sewage in community homes without centralized public plumbing. The solution is to provide a standalone, maintenance free sewage treatment solution developed with robust UNICEF technology. This has the added benefit of generating income from a small plot garden which is fertilized by the bio-compost from the treatment. We will partner with Safe Water Gardens (SWG). The cost per system is US$1,500 and can be shared by 3-4 households. Our goal is to provide a community of 100 homes in Bandung, Indonesia with 30 SWG systems. Beneficiaries will be individual households, community centers, rural schools in the developing countries.

We are targeting to raise USD$6,700 to apply for a Global Grant. Please contribute to this project in any way you can.
