Dear Fellow Rotarians and Friends,
The year kicked off with hopeful news of the vaccine for COVID-19 of which we hope will save lives and livelihoods.
January was a busy month for the club with a multitude of projects and events. Project Gift of Sight Sarikei handed over 100 intraocular lenses (IOLs) to Sarikei Hospital and another 118 to Miri Hospital.
Our youngest Rotarian Gabrielle Guo received her PHF recognition. Congratulations Gabrielle. We wish to record our thanks to Super Penyet, Liang Ji and Hua Zai, local hawker-fares, for their support to organize a Friendship Lunch for the residents at SWAMI Home on 16 January 2021. CP BS Chew moderated a panel discussion on blindness prevention which was a great educational resource for all of us.
The earlier Virtual Concert fundraising to support the Global Grant application to donate ventilators and PPEs for COVID treatment for Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Sabah, Malaysia, submitted by the Rotary Club of Luyang and Rotary Club of Taipei Tungmen, was approved by The Rotary Foundation. The award is for US$ 63,000. Well done, guys!
We handed over 62 sets of school uniforms to Ipoh Orphanage. It was a delight to see the smiles on the faces of the beneficiaries at the orphanage via Zoom. We hope to visit them when it is safer to do so.
In Rotary, 23 February is our anniversary and February is the month we focus on promoting peace. In light of this we will be having a Chinese New Year cum World Peace and Understanding Day fellowship with Group 11 clubs.
I would like to congratulate our member AG Richard Ong on receiving the official appointment as District Regional Chair for the PolioPlus Committee 2021-2022 and looking forward to working closely with him on meaningful projects.
On behalf of the Rotary E-Club of 3310, I would like to wish our Rotarians and Friends a very Happy Chinese New Year.
