President’s Message for June 2022

Friday, 3 June 2022 | View:

Heartiest congratulations to President Elect James Tian and his Board of Directors for taking on the leadership for the upcoming RY2022-23. I have full confidence that PE James and his board will lead the club to bring out the best amongst us and serve the community selflessly with open arms. Emerging from the pandemic for the past two years I believe the time is right for meaningful and impactful projects to take shape. Congratulations again from all of us at the Rotary E-Club of 3310. We wish you the best.

Every year we recognize an outstanding Rotarian from Rotary E-Club of 3310 who has been an exemplar in serving the community and living up to the Rotary values. Rotarian Cindy Yen is our Rotary Year 2021-22, Rotarian of the Year. Rotary E-Club of 3310 is humbled to have Cindy as a valued member. Congratulations Cindy.

To close off RY2021-22, I would like to highlight the main projects which our club were involved.

Safe Water Gardens, West Java, Indonesia

  • The project provided 92 households at Nagrak Village, West Java, Indonesia, a rural village community access to improved sanitation and hygiene.
  • This dramatically improved the hygiene and sanitation standards of the community.
  • The project also set up two shared water towers, supplying running water to more than 15 families for well below $200 per family.

This volunteer-run program provides support to youth who are out of school, but motivated to continue on with their education and achieve a N-level certificate.
  • In 2021 SSS provided support to 53 students. 66% sat for N-levels and 57% enrolled into ITE successfully.

  • To date more than 15,000 happy meals provided with support from Rotarians and Friends of Rotary and also in support of our local hawkers.
  • This was one of four projects that received District Community Service Project (Merit) at our recently concluded District Conference.

Project Ray of Hope

  • Providing Irlen lenses to students with Visual Processing Disorder from Assumption Secondary School and Spectra Secondary School
  • To date we have sponsored 11 students with Irlen lenses at a cost of $500 each. We are targeting 50 lenses for 2022.
  • This project was also recognized during the District Conference and received District Community Service Project (Merit).

Jolly Together

To bring cheers to the under-privileged children and youth from Homes. The project will also empower Rotarians and friends of Rotary to support community service projects and to offer assistance where they are needed. This will benefit 60 residential students of Boys’ Town – youth-at-risk, 60 Melrose Home – youth with adverse domestic challenges and 60 more from Sunbeam Place.

Healthcare Heroes

To acknowledge and appreciate the relentless efforts of our nurses towards our nation building, their contribution is an integral and very important pillar of Singapore’s progress. Project Chair, Rotarian Gabrielle Guo of Rotary E-Club 3310, with the collective efforts of 23 Rotary Clubs in Singapore and Rotaract Club of NUS, we offered 32,000 Gerber Daisies to 79 Hospitals and healthcare institutions in the public and private sectors. The virtual performance concert 2021 drew participants from our District and our neighbours. We raised funds for nursing students from low income families studying at the National University of Singapore’s Alice Lee Center for Nursing Studies (ALCNS). The funds raised benefit ALCNS Students Bursary Fund to help up to 100 students yearly.

The project received the District Best Vocational Service Project (Bronze Award) from DG Dolly Yeap for RY2021-22

Rotary My Wish

The MY WISH Project is a Rotary community initiative that was established 2008 with the aim to grant meaningful wishes that would make lasting imprints in the lives of terminally ill adult patients and their families. This wish-granting project targets underprivileged adult patients with terminal illnesses and embraces a section of our society often left forgotten (there are make-a-wish foundations for children but not adults). We hope to raise awareness within the healthcare community to encourage healthcare professionals, social workers and other individuals in close contact with terminally ill adults to play a supporting role in granting wishes.

Thank you fellow Rotarians and Friends of Rotary for your support during my two terms as Club President.

Yours in Rotary

President Eddie Ho
